Opening in 1913 at the corner of Main Street and West Fifth Avenue, the Hotel Pines was created to help expand Pine Bluff’s thriving commercial district. Designed by George R. Mann—the architect of the Arkansas State Capitol—the six-story hotel was once regarded as one of the finest in Arkansas.
For more than five decades, the Hotel Pines served as the center of the city’s social and civic life, welcoming travelers arriving through nearby Union Station and hosting grand balls, banquets, business gatherings, and community celebrations. Its marble-lined lobby, classical architecture, and multicolored stained-glass skylight reflected the prosperity and ambition of a growing Pine Bluff.
Following the end of passenger rail service, the hotel closed in 1970. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979 and remains one of downtown Pine Bluff’s most recognizable landmarks—waiting for a new chapter worthy of its history.
